Your Girls Need Support

You need to wear a bra.  Seriously.  I don’t understand what’s going on here.  Let me clarify:  If you are female and over the age of 13, YOU NEED TO WEAR A BRA.  It doesn’t matter what size your boobs are.  I don’t care if you’re “flat” or whatever.  Even if you are an “almost A,” you need a bra.  I can see your nipples.  Maybe your shirt isn’t see-through, but I CAN SEE YOUR NIPPLES.  This is inappropriate.  I don’t care if it’s a training bra or a camisole, but for God’s sake, please put something on.

For the most part, I am concerned about women, over 18 – no, let’s say 15, who think that bras are optional.  I have a friend, a very sweet woman who is pushing 30, who seems to think that bras are only for fancy occasions.  This is unfortunate.  Even if you are wearing a sweater, I can tell that you are not properly supported.  It makes me uncomfortable.  My friend frequently wears t-shirts with nothing underneath.  She doesn’t have a particularly large chest, but she does have breasts, and they are a little too free.  You know how they can kind of point out to the sides? Yeah. We shouldn’t know that.

There’s also a woman in one of my classes who I just can’t figure out.  She has shown up to both classes so far with a somewhat tight long sleeved shirt on, no make-up, trendy sweats and no bra.  Maybe she’s going for a “natural” look, but when you are at least a D-cup, bras are NOT and optional item of clothing.  Seriously, it’s very distracting.  Why does she think that’s ok? Isn’t she worried about sagging?  I’m not a D and I am concerned about sagging.  I think her back probably hurts.  With the proper support, that wouldn’t be an issue.

It doesn’t help when celebrities are running around willy-nilly bra-less.  For examples, please check out The Superficial.  It’s a super-addictive website that really tracks the best of all celebrity activity.  There’s a thing in there today about Paris Hilton and how she loves being flat-chested because it means she never has to wear a bra.  She should cover up more in general.  Preferably in a hole somewhere far away where I’ll never have to hear anything else about her.  She doesn’t need a bra because most of her clothing features a lot of side-boob action.  Bras get in the way of that.

Random Computer Crap

A couple of months ago, my computer freaked out.  I turned it off one day, and the next day, it wouldn’t turn on.  It gave me a crazy warning screen and shut itself off.  I was totally confused.  I’ve had it for a little over three years, and I’ve never really had a problem with it before.  First, I talked to the IT guy at work, who basically told me that I was an idiot for buying a Gateway.  Whatever, people have their preferences.  He’s a big fan of Dell and has a friend who got a total lemon from Gateway.  Like I said, I’ve never really had a problem.  He didn’t really think there was much I could do without completely wiping my hard drive clean and starting over.  I didn’t want to do that since I never learned my lesson from my previous laptop cashing out and I hadn’t saved a lot of the information that was on the computer.

So, I called Gateway.  Naturally, I never bought an extended warranty or anything, so I was essentially SOL.  I gave the tech a frustrated sigh and said that I expected as much and told him what IT Guy had said about Gateway Customer Service.  Thankfully, this worked.  Dude was awesome.  He stayed on the phone with me for about three hours and got my computer straightened out.  Basically, I had gotten some sort of virus – even though I have virus protection.

This is all a long way of saying that, on the recommendation of IT Guy, I have started using a new internet browser, called Mozilla Firefox.  So far, I like it.  It’s different from Internet Explorer, but it is Netscape-based, and I used to use Netscape instead of IE.  I generally distrust Microsoft.  Mozilla is supposedly better protected that IE.  Unfortunately, MSN.com and some of their features, like video clips and stuff, don’t work on Mozilla.  This has actually worked to my benefit and helped me break my addiction to msn gamezone.  I could play Zuma for hours.  Plus, hotmail works fine.  I do like hotmail.  I used to use a yahoo account, but I hate the way yahoo is constructed.  You have to click on your new messages notification like three times to actually get to your inbox.  I hate that.  And something about the layout just blows.

Anywho.  Yesterday, while at work, I got a message saying that I had been selected to use the Windows Live Mail Beta.  While I generally distrust Microsoft and would like to break my addiction to them, I can’t resist being “the first” to test a new something.  I’m sure they’re offering this to anyone, but I was left out of the gmail loop.  Leave me some glory.

Windows Live Mail is essentially Outlook online.  Which is ok.  I used Outlook at my old job and I used to use it at home when I used my internet provider’s email address.  It’s certainly more user-friendly than the “classic” hotmail.  However, it doesn’t work on Mozilla.  This blows because it means I have to choose between the two and, quite frankly, I like my computer to be up and running.  So, I am technically still beta-testing it, but I can’t use the Outlook view, only the “classic” which sort of defeats the purpose.

I don’t really have a point here.  Except maybe that, I dislike Microsoft for their world-domination combined with a lazy attitude towards security.  You can’t really avoid using their stuff.  I want free internet-based email.  I don’t want Google to store every email I ever send or receive, no matter how much they claim they won’t pass that information on to the government.  I hate Yahoo’s whole deal.  They’re too cluttered.  I’m sure there are other options out there, but this is all I know.  Maybe someday, when I finally make the switch to a Mac (this is will be shortly after I win the lottery and have lots of money to spend on replacing stuff that isn’t broken), I’ll have the time to invest in finding replacements for every windows-based application that I’m currently hooked on.  In the meantime, I’ll just have to deal.

Bye Katie Couric!

According to several articles, Katie Couric is supposed to announce tomorrow that she's leaving the Today show. There are rumors that she's going to CBS for the nightly news, but that won't be confirmed until her contract is up in May. (you can read all 353 articles at Google News)

Personally, this makes me very happy. Morning news TV sucks. The Today Show is only the best because it is the least annoying. I love Matt Lauer. He's cute and funny but can ask the tough questions and rarely lets an interviewee slide on bullshit. Katie interrupts her subjects and talks over them and asks stupid questions. She has a tendency to accept their roundabout answers that don't answer anything. And I find her really annoying. Anyone would be better than Katie. There's a rumor that Meredith from "The View" will replace her, which I think would be good. Meredith seems like a smart cookie. In a perfect world, I'd like to wake up to Matt and ex-Chicagoan Lester Holt. With Al Roker and Ann Curry, they'd be unstoppable. The other networks might just give up.

Shut Up, Rory!

There was a t-shirt for sale from glarkware that said "Shut Up, Rory!" Because at the end of the last season of Gilmore Girls, and the beginning of this season, Rory was being incredibly stupid and annoying and not talking to her mom and had dropped out of school and blah blah blah. She's back on the right track now, though, so you don't have to worry. I totally wanted the shirt, because I love the Gilmore Girls. It seemed a little silly, though, since it cost $20 and I'd be embarrassed to wear it outside of my house.

I am also a little embarrassed to admit that I am super excited about tonight's episode. Not that I know what is going to happen or anything, but they've been on break for, oh, ever, and I am dying for another fix. Tonight is like the best night of TV - there's a new Gilmore Girls AND a new House. I heart House.

Unfortunately, I will have to trust TiVo to do a good job and record those shows, because I have a paper to write for my History of English Prose class. It's just a little two-pager to show we did the reading but, considering that the reading has been pretty challenging for me, I'm anticipating a rough go of it. Seriously, I have never considered style so seriously before. Is style outside of meaning? Or is it intertwined and inseparable? If style is a part of meaning, can we even talk about it? It's fascinating stuff and I'm sure I'm not doing it justice here. That's why I'm taking the class.
